Search
Find text in the current document, or search literal text across the open project with clear scope and limits.
mIDE has two searches: one inside the current document and one across the project. Both are read-only. Neither rewrites files and there is no replace-all command.
Find in document
Press Ctrl F to open Find. It displays the number of occurrences in the current document and updates the count as you edit.Enter goes to the next occurrence andShift Enter to the previous one.
Find in project
Menu → Find in Project (Ctrl AltF) searches literal text, case-insensitively. Enter orSearch starts the scan; typing alone does not. Results show the count, path, line, column and a text excerpt. Click a result to open the file and select that occurrence.
Unsaved open documents take precedence over their disk versions, so the search sees what you currently have in the editor. Esc orClose dismisses the window.
Search does not use a query language. Spaces, dots and punctuation are matched literally rather than as patterns or regular expressions.
What is skipped
Project search ignores these directories:
.git, node_modules, target, dist, build, .next,.astro, .cache and .venv.
It also skips:
- all symlinks,
- non-UTF-8 and binary files,
- files over 16 MiB.
This first implementation does not interpret .gitignore. A text document you have explicitly opened is searched even if it sits in an excluded directory, because the open buffer takes precedence.
Limits
| Bound | Value |
|---|---|
| Results | 1,000 |
| Entries visited | 50,000 |
| Text scanned | 64 MiB |
| Time | About five seconds |
When a bound is reached, the window reports incomplete results or skipped entries instead of implying that the project is fully searched.
